SpaceX successfully reached space with the ninth test flight of its super heavy-lift launch vehicle, Starship, but failed to deploy the onboard mock satellites. This flight marked the first time the company reused a Super Heavy booster. The launch took place at Starbase in Texas on the morning of the 28th (KST). While previous test flights saw the second-stage spacecraft explode during ascent, this time it successfully reached space. The Super Heavy booster underwent a new descent test designed to increase atmospheric drag, allowing it to slow down with less propellant. Due to the added complexity, SpaceX opted not to attempt recovery and instead let the booster splash down into the ocean. However, contact was lost shortly after the landing burn began, and the booster exploded six minutes after launch. The second-stage Starship spacecraft was scheduled to deploy eight Starlink simulator satellites while in space, but the payload bay door failed to open, resulting in a deployment failure. The spacecraft later experienced an attitude control error and lost main tank pressure, causing it to tumble out of control. Communication was lost 46 minutes into the flight. Although a controlled splashdown was not achieved, SpaceX believes the debris fell within the designated hazard zone in the Indian Ocean. SpaceX plans to continue conducting Starship test flights every three to four weeks.

스페이스X가 초대형 발사체 스타십의 9차 시험 비행을 실시해 우주 도달에는 성공했지만, 탑재된 모의 위성의 배치에는 실패했다. 이번 시험은 슈퍼 헤비 부스터를 처음으로 재사용한 비행으로, 발사는 미국 텍사스 스타베이스에서 28일 오전(한국시간) 이뤄졌다. 앞선 시험에서는 2단 우주선이 상승 중 폭발했으나, 이번에는 우주권 진입까지는 성공했다. 슈퍼 헤비 부스터는 하강 중 대기 저항을 증가시키는 새로운 테스트를 진행했으며, 이로 인해 회수 없이 바다에 낙하시키는 방식이 채택됐다. 그러나 착륙 연소 직후 통신이 끊겼고, 발사 6분 만에 폭발했다. 2단인 스타십 우주선은 우주에서 8개의 스타링크 모의 위성을 배치할 예정이었으나, 탑재체 덮개가 열리지 않아 배치에 실패했다. 이어 자세 제어 오류와 연료 탱크 압력 손실로 인해 기체가 회전하며 비정상 상태에 빠졌고, 비행 46분 후 통신이 두절됐다. 낙하 통제는 실패했지만, 스페이스X는 잔해가 인도양의 예정된 위험 구역에 떨어졌을 것으로 보고 있다. 스페이스X는 향후 스타십 시험 비행을 3~4주 간격으로 이어갈 계획이다.
