The cryptocurrency market was rocked by a massive wave of liquidations, wiping out $1.5 billion in a single day. According to Coinglass, over 400,000 traders closed out positions, marking the largest liquidation event since March. Bitcoin fell as much as 3%, sliding to around $111,000 before recovering to the $113,000 level. Ethereum plunged up to 9% to $4,000 before bouncing back to around $4,200. Other major tokens also saw steep declines, with Worldcoin, FLOKI, and Dogecoin dropping more than 9%, XRP falling 4%, and Solana losing 7%. Market analysts said the correction was inevitable as long positions in the derivatives market had become overcrowded. Linh Tran, a market analyst at XS.com, noted that “Bitcoin has entered a correction phase,” calling the pullback “a healthy process that reduces leverage and builds a stronger foundation for sustainable price levels.” David Morrison, senior market analyst at Trade Nation, added that “the sell-off has dealt a big blow to market sentiment” and that “the key question now is whether markets can rebound quickly or fall further to test deeper support levels.” Despite the slump, cryptocurrencies remain on an upward trend in 2025. Fueled by expectations of rate cuts, looser regulations, and crypto-friendly policies under the Trump administration, Bitcoin is up 21% year-to-date, while Ethereum has gained 26%.
