Oracle has laid off more than 300 employees in Washington and California, focusing on its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) media services and sovereign cloud divisions. According to internal reports, the total number of layoffs worldwide is estimated to be in the thousands. Many of those affected are software developers and managerial-level staff. Oracle stated that some of the layoffs were due to performance issues, while continuing to hire for its cloud business. The move is seen as a response to rising costs associated with increased investment in AI infrastructure. Oracle previously conducted large-scale layoffs in March of this year and in November last year. Despite these cuts, the company reported solid results in its most recent quarter, with revenues of $15.9 billion and operating income of $5.1 billion. Other global IT companies have also recently announced layoffs.
