Tesla will begin pilot testing of its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, starting June 12. According to Bloomberg, the company has already completed its first driverless test run on public roads with an engineer in the passenger seat. This pilot marks Tesla’s first step in transitioning its autonomous taxi concept from a product idea to real-world operation. Management had aimed to begin testing in June, and the setting of a specific launch date suggests confidence in the readiness of its software. For the initial phase, Tesla plans to operate 10 robotaxis. Based on an average of 15 rides per vehicle per day, the company could conduct over 4,500 test rides per month. This volume is expected to help Tesla quickly identify and resolve any issues with the service.
