After a two-year investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla will recall more than 2 million vehicles to fix Autopilot safety issues, according to new NHTSA documents. The fixes will be provided free of charge via an over-the-air (OTA) update that adds features to ensure drivers are paying attention while using Tesla's controversial driver assistance system. All Tesla electric vehicles (Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X) built after the launch of Autopilot in 2015 are expected to be affected. "The remedies will include additional features to the controls and warnings already present in the affected vehicles to prompt drivers to continue to take responsibility for driving when Autosteer is engaged," NHTSA said.
