AI startup Anthropic has appointed Netflix co-founder and chairman Reed Hastings as a member of its board of directors. Hastings co-founded Netflix in 1997 and served as CEO and later co-CEO until 2023. His appointment to the board was made by Anthropic’s Long-Term Benefit Trust, a body composed of five financially disinterested members. Hastings has shown a longstanding interest in the social impact of technology and has previously served on the boards of Microsoft, Bloomberg, and Meta (formerly Facebook). In a statement, he said, “I believe in Anthropic’s approach to AI development and want to contribute to the progress of humanity.”
