Apple has announced that it will purchase $500 million worth of rare earth magnets over several years from MP Materials, a U.S.-based rare earth magnet producer. These magnets are used in various products, including the iPhone, MacBook, and Apple Pencil. The U.S.-made magnets will be shipped globally to meet growing international demand. MP Materials is the only fully integrated rare earth producer in the United States. Together with Apple, the company plans to upgrade its existing processing facility in Texas to build dedicated manufacturing lines for Apple products. Once completed, the project is expected to create dozens of new jobs in advanced manufacturing and R&D.
