Scale AI, in which Facebook’s parent company Meta invested $14.8 billion to acquire a 49% stake, has laid off approximately 14% of its total workforce. About 200 full-time employees and 500 contractors were affected by the layoffs. The cuts were carried out abruptly, with the impacted employees reportedly losing access to company systems early in the morning. In an email to employees, Scale AI’s interim CEO Jason Droege announced a reorganization of certain departments within the GenAI division. He explained that these changes aim to strengthen the company’s long-term competitiveness and allow GenAI to focus on the most profitable areas. Meanwhile, since Meta’s investment was announced, major clients including Google have reportedly halted projects with Scale AI, and concerns about security practices have been raised.
