The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that offshore crypto exchanges now have a legal pathway to serve US-based clients by registering under the Foreign Board of Trade (FBOT) framework. Acting CFTC Director Caroline Pham stated that the CFTC welcomes Americans who want to trade efficiently and safely under CFTC regulations, calling it part of the "crypto sprint" to deliver wins for President Trump. Currently, Binance, the world's largest exchange by trading volume, is inaccessible to US residents and operates through a separate entity, Binance.US, which is not available in all states. This initiative aims to increase liquidity in crypto markets and remove regional silos that have kept crypto trading fragmented across different jurisdictions. The CFTC is overhauling its crypto policies as part of the Trump administration's effort to bring crypto companies back to the US after an exodus between 2021-2024 caused by unclear regulations drove most trading activity offshore.
