Microsoft has decided to adopt rival Anthropic's artificial intelligence (AI) for Office 365. Going forward, new features in productivity apps such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint will utilize Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 model alongside OpenAI’s technology. This decision comes as Microsoft’s exclusive partnership with OpenAI weakens. OpenAI is pursuing its own infrastructure and launching a LinkedIn competitor, contributing to ongoing tensions with Microsoft. Microsoft is negotiating a new contract with OpenAI, and internal assessments show that Anthropic’s model is competitive in certain areas, such as PowerPoint design. Microsoft has already unveiled its own AI models, MAI-Voice-1 and MAI-1-preview, and supports various models such as xAI’s Grok and Anthropic’s Claude through GitHub Copilot. Meanwhile, OpenAI is also reducing its dependence on Microsoft by developing its own hardware, launching its own AI chips, and introducing a jobs platform. Microsoft has stated that its long-term partnership with OpenAI will continue.
마이크로소프트가 Office 365에 경쟁사 앤스로픽의 인공지능(AI)을 도입하기로 결정했다. 앞으로 Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint 등 생산성 앱의 신기능에 오픈AI와 함께 앤스로픽의 Claude Sonnet 4 모델이 활용될 전망이다. 이번 결정은 오픈AI와의 독점적 협력이 약화되는 가운데 이뤄졌다. 오픈AI가 자체 인프라 구축과 LinkedIn 경쟁 플랫폼 등을 추진하며 마이크로소프트와의 갈등이 이어지고 있다. 마이크로소프트는 오픈AI와 새 계약을 협상 중이며, 내부 평가에 따르면 PowerPoint 디자인 등 일부 기능에서는 앤스로픽 모델이 경쟁력을 보인 것으로 나타났다. 마이크로소프트는 이미 자체 AI 모델인 MAI-Voice-1, MAI-1-preview를 공개했고, xAI의 Grok 및 앤스로픽의 Claude 등 다양한 모델을 GitHub Copilot을 통해 지원하고 있다. 한편 오픈AI도 하드웨어 독립과 자체 칩 생산, 구인 플랫폼 출시 등으로 마이크로소프트 의존도를 낮추고 있다. 마이크로소프트 측은 오픈AI와의 장기 협력은 지속하겠다는 입장을 밝혔다.
