The electric hypercar 'U9 Extreme' developed by YangWang, the luxury brand of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD, has broken Bugatti's production car top speed record by reaching 308.33 mph (496.22 km/h). In tests conducted at the Papenburg Automotive Testing facility in Germany, the U9 Extreme surpassed the previous record holder, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which set a 2019 record of 304.77 mph, by more than 3 mph. This record was achieved in a one-way run. While official production car top speed records are calculated as an average of runs in both directions, the achievement is considered significant since Bugatti also set its record with a one-way run. The U9 Extreme's high-speed capability is attributed to its powertrain system consisting of four motors producing nearly 3,000 horsepower. It employs a world-first-level 1,200V platform that enhances performance and efficiency while reducing weight. The vehicle is scheduled for limited production of 30 units, and the price has not yet been disclosed. However, the industry expects it to be priced at an extremely high level.
