Apple is preparing mass production of new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models powered by the M5 chip, targeting a release window between late 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. The M5 MacBook Pro models are codenamed J714 and J716, while the MacBook Air variants are designated J813 and J815, with both product lines currently approaching the production stage. Two new external displays (codenamed J427 and J527) are also expected to launch alongside the laptops, with one likely being an updated version of the Studio Display. Apple may delay the M5 models until Q1 2026 to avoid cannibalizing sales of the M4 MacBook Pro, which was released on October 30, 2024. A major MacBook Pro redesign is anticipated for 2026 with M6 chips and OLED displays, featuring a hole-punch camera and thinner chassis design. The M5 chip is expected to use TSMC's third-generation 3nm process, similar to the upcoming A19 and A19 Pro chips for iPhone, promising improved efficiency and performance gains. Apple is also planning a budget-friendly MacBook model with an A18 Pro chip to expand its market share in the entry-level segment.
