Microsoft and OpenAI are considering a $500 million investment in a humanoid robotics startup, Bloomberg reported today. The humanoid robotics startup in question is Figure AI. The company was founded in 2022 and has hired top roboticists from Tesla and Boston Dynamics. According to Bloomberg, if the deal closes, Figure AI will be valued at $1.9 billion. It would make it the first humanoid robotics startup to become a unicorn. Figure AI has already partnered with BMW to pilot humanoid robots at its South Carolina plant. Elon Musk's Tesla has also announced plans to launch its own humanoid robot, Optimus, next year.
