최근 구글이 삼성을 겨냥한 폴더블폰을 당장 오는 10일 발표하고 다음달 출시할 것이라는 보도가 CNBC를 통해서 흘러 나왔다. 지난해 11월부터 구글 픽셀폴드 사진과 렌더링이 줄기차게 나온 가운데 소문 속 픽셀 폴드 등장의 카운트다운만 남았다고 보는 게 자연스럽다. 이는 그동안 구글 안드로이드 동맹의 최대 협력자였던 삼성과 구글간의 관계에도 변화를 가져올 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

구글의 모회사 알파벳이 25일(현지시간) 올해 1분기 매출이 전년동기대비 2.6% 증가한 697억 9,000만달러(약 93조 5000억 원), 주당 순이익은 1.17달러를 기록했다. 각각 시장 예상치인 680억 9000만 달러와 1.07달러를 웃돌았는데 영업이익은 174억 달러로 지난해 같은 기간에 비해 13% 감소했다.

해고된 직원만 1만 2천 명. 거기다가 우리 돈 25조의 경제적 가치로 평가받고 있던 실리콘밸리 신사옥 건설까지 중단했다. 모두 '비용 절감' 이라는 역사적 사명인 듯 했다. 하지만 순다르 피차이 구글·알파벳 최고경영자는(CEO) 빅테크 ‘칼바람’에도 지난해 연봉으로 2억 2,600만달러(약 3,010억 원)를 챙겼다.
