가상자산(암호화폐) 시장이 차츰 안정새를 보이고 있다. 가상자산 대장주 비트코인(BTC)는 일주일 새 2만달러와 2만1000달러를 오르내리는 횡보세를 보이고 있다. 이달 들어 불어닥친 최악의 폭락 소나기는 일단 피했다는 평가다.

Such a drop in 2022 would likely drag the world’s biggest token down to $13,000 — a “key support area,” according to Harnett. The crypto world is on edge as investors grapple with the impact of higher interest rates and liquidity issues at major industry players.

More than half of Bitcoin (BTC) addresses are still in profit, raising questions about the severity of the current “bear market. BTC price bottoms have tended to coincide with less than half of addresses remaining in profit, and as such, the current downtrend still has a way to go if it is to fit in with historical patterns. In March 2020, for instance, profitable addresses dropped to 41%, and before that, the 2018 bear market also saw a drop below the 50% mark.

Bitcoin fell to about $17,749, and ether fell to about $897 on Saturday afternoon, as the sell-off in the crypto market accelerates. Bitcoin bounced back to around $18,955 and ether was trading at about $955 just after 8 p.m. ET. Bitcoin peaked at $68,789.63 in November.

Bitcoin steadied on Tuesday after earlier hitting a new 18-month low, as major crypto lender Celsius Network's freezing of withdrawals and the prospect of sharp U.S. interest rate rises shook the volatile asset class. Bitcoin clawed its way to positive territory after much as 7.3% overnight to $20,816, its lowest since Dec. 2020. It was last hovering around $22,470. The world's largest cryptocurrency fell 15% on Monday, its sharpest one-day drop since March 2020. It has shed about half its value this year and over 20% since Friday alone. Since its record high of $69,000 in November, it has slumped nearly 70%.

Block subsidiary TBD has announced plans to build a new decentralized web centered around Bitcoin (BTC), underscoring founder Jack Dorsey’s belief that the largest blockchain network will play a major role in the internet’s evolution. The new project, called “Web5,” represents the latest Bitcoin-centric endeavor to be pursued by Dorsey since stepping down as CEO of Twitter in November 2021.
