An Nvidia employee working in Israel was kidnapped by Hamas over the weekend in response to Hamas attacks on Israel. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang broke the news in a company-wide email, saying the company is in contact with the employee's family. The kidnapped employee appeared in a viral video of a couple being held hostage by militants at a music festival. "Delegate important tasks to your colleagues around the world," Huang encouraged, adding, "We will do our best to fill in your gaps." The incident illustrates how Israel's war can have a direct impact on Silicon Valley-based tech companies halfway around the world. Microsoft will unveil a dedicated chip for artificial intelligence development and services next month. The company will showcase its homegrown AI chip at its annual developer conference, "MS Ignite," on Nov. 14-17 in Seattle, Washington. The new chip is a datacenter server for training and inferring large-scale language models (LLMs) that Microsoft has been developing under the project name "Athena" and was initially expected to be released early next year. Microsoft said Athena will perform better than existing AI chips, saving time and money on AI tasks.
