TikTok has filed a lawsuit against Montana, the first state in the U.S. to ban TikTok. "We challenge Montana's unconstitutional ban on TikTok to protect our business and the hundreds of thousands of TikTok users in Montana," the company, which is owned by Chinese tech company ByteDance, said in a complaint filed in federal court in Missoula, Montana. "Based on precedent and the facts, we are confident we will prevail."

The US state of Montana has passed a bill banning TikTok. Governor Greg Gianforte signed the bill into law today, and TikTok will be banned in Montana starting next year. TikTok will also be banned from being downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store in Montana. Federal lawmakers are also pushing to ban TikTok. They have already introduced bills that would either ban TikTok across the United States or give the president the power to ban TikTok.

TikTok is in legal limbo with the U.S. as the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States conducts a security review, which has reportedly thus far not assuaged regulators’ concerns about ByteDance’s connections with the Chinese Communist Party and the safety of Americans’ data.
