인류를 위협하는 온실효과 부작용을 줄이고자 전세계가 탄소배출 저감에 나서고 있다. 이와 관련, 최근 유럽이 독특한 계획을 주목을 끌고 있다. 바로 우주에 데이터센터를 구축하는 것이다. 그냥 생각만하고 있는 게 아니다. 이미 예산이 배정됐고 타당성 검토를 위한 시범 연구 사업 컨소시엄도 구성됐다.

European Union strikes deal on law to effectively ban sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2035. Carmakers must achieve a 100% cut in CO2 emissions by 2035, which would make it impossible to sell new fossil fuel-powered vehicles in the 27-country bloc. Deal also includes a 55% cut for new cars sold from 2030 versus 2021 levels, much higher than existing target of 37.5% reduction.

유럽연합(EU) 의회는 오는 2024년 말부터 USB-C를 모든 새로운 스마트폰, 태블릿 및 카메라용 케이블을 C타입 USB(USB-C)표준으로 단일화하도록 강제하는 새로운 법을 지난 4일(현지시각) 통과시켰다. EU 의원들이 찬성 602표, 반대 13표로 채택한 이 법안은 노트북(제조사들)에는 유예 기간을 두어 2026년 초부터 적용받도록 했다.

최근 세계 최대 동영상 공유 플랫폼 유튜브가 넷플릭스, 디즈니플러스 등 각 OTT 서비스를 한 번에 모아 볼 수 있는 온라인 스토어를 만든다는 소식이 들려왔다. 이를테면 애플·구글이 운영하는 앱마켓과 유사하다고 볼 수 있다. 개별 OTT업체들은 투자금 회수 뿐 아니라 새로운 수익을 창출할 수 있는 시장이 될 수 있다.
