Meta is building a 5-gigawatt (GW) AI-dedicated data center called “Hyperion” in Louisiana. CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the facility will supply computational resources to the company’s next-generation AI lab. Meta also plans to launch a 1GW supercluster called “Prometheus” in Ohio in 2026. These two facilities are seen as a strategy to secure computational superiority in the AI race against competitors like OpenAI and Google. Meanwhile, concerns are being raised over the depletion of local resources due to massive power consumption. Experts warn that by 2030, data centers could account for 20% of total U.S. electricity consumption.
