Apple is reportedly set to equip its next-generation iPad Pro, expected to launch later this year, with two front-facing cameras. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new iPad Pro will feature an additional front camera on the portrait side, complementing the existing landscape camera. Previous iPad models had a front camera positioned only on the portrait edge, but starting with the iPad Pro M4 released in 2024, Apple moved it to the landscape side. This change was well received by users who primarily used their devices in landscape orientation with a keyboard, but those who held their iPads vertically noted that Face ID unlocking became less convenient. In response to this feedback, Apple appears to be designing the next iPad Pro so that users can unlock Face ID and easily take selfies or video calls regardless of whether the device is held in portrait or landscape mode. The two front cameras are also expected to provide automatic subject centering based on the user's position. Additionally, the upcoming iPad Pro will be equipped with the M5 chip, offering modest improvements in performance and power efficiency. Apple reportedly plans to apply its next-generation chips to other products as well, including Vision Pro, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac.

애플이 올해 말 출시 예정인 차세대 iPad Pro에 전면 카메라를 두 개 탑재할 것으로 알려졌다. 블룸버그 마크 거먼 기자에 따르면, 새로운 iPad Pro는 기존 가로 방향 카메라 외에 세로 방향에도 전면 카메라가 추가된다. 기존 iPad 모델은 전면 카메라가 세로 측면에만 탑재돼 있었지만, 애플은 2024년 iPad Pro M4부터 이를 가로 방향으로 이동시켰다. 이는 키보드 활용 등 가로 중심 사용자들에겐 긍정적인 변화였지만, 세로로 기기를 사용하는 이용자들에게는 Face ID 해제가 불편하다는 지적이 제기됐다. 애플은 이러한 피드백을 반영해 차기 모델에서는 가로·세로 어느 방향으로 들어도 얼굴을 인식하고 셀카나 영상 통화를 자연스럽게 이용할 수 있도록 설계한 것으로 보인다. 두 개의 전면 카메라는 사용자의 위치에 맞춰 자동으로 인물을 중앙에 배치하는 기능도 제공할 것으로 예상된다. 이외에도 차세대 iPad Pro는 M5 칩을 탑재해 성능과 전력 효율이 소폭 개선될 전망이다. 애플은 iPad Pro 외에도 Vision Pro, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac 등의 제품에도 차세대 칩을 적용할 계획인 것으로 파악된다.
