ADP is a feature that allows iPhone users to add end-to-end encryption to their iCloud data. Regarding this decision, Apple stated they are "gravely disappointed that we are unable to provide ADP to UK customers in a situation where data breaches and threats to personal information are increasing." Customers residing in the UK who are currently using ADP will need to manually disable encryption to maintain their iCloud accounts. Apple plans to provide a grace period for this process. This measure follows the UK government's issuance of a "technical capability notice" to Apple under the Investigatory Powers Act. This notice demands the construction of a backdoor that would allow security authorities to access users' encrypted data when necessary. Apple maintains its stance that it "has never created a backdoor or master key for any of our products or services and we never will".
