To that end, the company has formed a new team, Gen AI, and is strengthening its presence in the AI market by enhancing its AI integration services and launching a mobile app. Gen AI is a team focused on creating conversational AI models with lower computational requirements than traditional AI techniques. The team will be led by Misha Bilenko, who is moving from the Microsoft Research Group. The formation of Gen AI is seen as a move by Microsoft to gain greater independence in AI development. Previously, Microsoft has relied heavily on OpenAI for its AI advancements, but with the formation of Gen AI, the company is looking to build its own AI technology. Microsoft is also ramping up its AI integration services. In January, it launched Copilot Pro, a $20 per month subscription service that provides access to AI-enabled Office features and advanced language models like OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo. The company is also helping businesses leverage AI capabilities with Copilot for Microsoft 365.
