After Apple and Samsung, Google has rolled up its sleeves. Google has announced that it will begin production of its latest smartphone, the Pixel 8, in India starting next year. "We are working with international and local manufacturers to manufacture in India," Rick Ostero, Google's head of devices, said at the company's annual Google for India event here today. Ostero did not name specific partners, but the company is reportedly in talks with Taiwan's Foxconn and Indian manufacturer Dixon Technology.

Taiwan-based Foxconn, the world's largest contract manufacturer of electronics, has rapidly expanded its presence in India by investing in manufacturing facilities in the south of the country as the company seeks to move away from China. V Lee, Foxconn's representative in India, in a LinkedIn post to mark Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 73rd birthday, said the company was "aiming for another doubling of employment, FDI (foreign direct investment), and business size in India" by this time next year.

India has become the first country in the world to land on the lunar south pole, and the fourth to do so after the Soviet Union (now Russia), the United States, and China. Vikram, the landing module of India's Chandrayaan-3 lunar lander, touched down near the south pole of the moon at 9:33 p.m. EDT on March 23, near the western side of the Boguslausky Crater, about 70 degrees south latitude and about 595 kilometers from the South Pole. This is the first time a human lunar probe has landed on the lunar south pole, where landing is difficult due to the sun's shadow.

India will launch an unmanned lunar probe today to become the fourth country in the world to land on the moon. The unmanned Chandriyaan-3 lunar probe will lift off from the Sriharikota launch site in southern India at around 2 p.m. local time on Thursday, the Indian Space Research Organization said. Built on a budget of less than $75 million, Chandriyaan-3 could become the fourth country to land on the moon, joining the United States, the Soviet Union, and China.
