Tesla has been criticized for overstating range since the launch of its first electric car models. According to Reuters, Tesla has created a separate customer response team to address range issues and advise consumers that the range of some models may be reduced due to battery degradation. Tesla is not alone in overstating EV range. Standards organization SAE International recently released a study showing that in highway driving, electric vehicles typically fall 12.5% short of their official range.

테슬라의 슈퍼차저는 전 세계에 4만 대가 설치돼 있는데 빠르고 안정적인 것으로 평가받지만 테슬라 차량 전용이기에 폭스바겐이나 포드, 쉐보레(GM) 등 경쟁사 차량은 이용할 수 없었다. 그런데 지난해 11월 테슬라는 자체 급속 충전소인 ‘슈퍼차저’를 경쟁사 전기차에도 개방한다고 발표하고 이를 실행에 옮기기 시작했다. 지난 2021년 일론 머스크 테슬라 CEO가 “슈퍼차저 네트워크를 올해부터 다른 전기차에 개방하겠다”고 약속했지만 유럽과 호주 등지에서였고 그간 미국에서는 예외였다.

북미는 물론 전세계 전기차 제조업체들이 다양하고 파편화된 충전환경을 갖고 있다. 이는 전기차 충전 신뢰성과 전기차 도입을 방해하는 원인으로 지목된다. 이런 가운데 최근 세계 주요 전기차 제조업체들이 잇따라 테슬라가 만든 북미충전표준(North American Charging Standard·NACS)을 도입키로 하면서 관심이 쏠리고 있다.

Tesla said it delivered 466,000 vehicles globally in the second quarter. That's an 83% year-over-year surge, and it's well above market expectations.

Electrify America is working towards supporting Tesla's NACS electric vehicle charging plug. The company announced plans to introduce the NACS connector to "existing and future" charging stations by 2025. This doesn't mean that Electrify America is doing away with the Combined Charging System (CCS), a standard used by EV manufacturers like General Motors, Ford, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, and others.

Goldman Sachs downgraded its investment grade rating to "neutral" from "buy," saying it expects global EV prices to fall further.

Hyundai Motor's CEO, Jaehoon Chang, said on Tuesday that the company will consider making its vehicles more readily compatible with the charging standard Tesla is pushing for in North America. Tesla's Superchargers make up about 60% of available U.S. fast chargers, and Ford and General Motors have struck deals with Tesla in recent weeks to use its charging technology, now dubbed the North American Charging Standard (NACS).
