On February 22, a photo circulated on Twitter showing an explosion on the grounds of the Pentagon, a U.S. Department of Defense building in Arlington County, Virginia. The photo was shared on Russian state media outlet RT, as well as on financial media outlet Zerohedge's account, which received a "blue check," an official account verification mark. However, it turned out to be a false image created by artificial intelligence (AI). Once the photo was revealed to be false, the Twitter accounts that shared it either deleted the post or tweeted a correction. This incident raises concerns about misinformation spread by AI.
