Tesla, the electric car market leader, has suffered a massive share price drop, wiping out $7 trillion in market value. This follows an earnings call in which the company revealed that it is focusing on developing cheaper vehicle models as it faces slowing EV sales growth and threats from Chinese competitors. In its earnings call on Wednesday, Tesla predicted that sales growth this year could be "significantly lower than last year. The company said this is due to its focus on developing new models, possibly lower-cost ones, for future launches. Tesla reported a 38% increase in electric vehicle sales in 2023 compared to 2022, but that falls short of the company's previously set goal of averaging 50% annual growth for several years. Tesla's Q4 2023 financial results were also disappointing. Earnings per share fell 40% year-over-year, while revenue increased 3% to more than $25 billion, falling short of market forecasts.
