Meta has announced an AI sandbox to help advertisers create alternative copy, text-prompted backgrounds, and image cropping for Facebook and Instagram ads. Meta's announcement comes after Andrew Bosworth, Meta's chief technology officer, said last month that the company plans to "use generative AI technology in ads." The feature is available to select advertisers and will be rolled out to more in July.

Meta announced Wednesday that it has shut down a network of more than 100 China-based accounts that posed as organizations in the United States and Europe and made pro-China claims. The Facebook and Instagram accounts, which included fictitious news organizations and posed as think tanks, appear to have used deepfake images developed through artificial intelligence to make the fake accounts appear legitimate, Meta said.

At the time, Meta said it had agreed to pay a $725 million penalty to resolve the class action. The Cambridge Analytica data breach occurred in March 2018, when a research team gathered large amounts of personal information to target voters in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and shared it with data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica. If you used Facebook between May 2007 and December 2022 and lived in the United States during that time, you may be eligible for a cash settlement. You can file a claim on the official settlement site.
