It looks like Tesla is winning the EV charging standards war. Global automaker Stellantis (which includes Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, Ram, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, and more) has announced that it will adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging standard. Starting in 2025, Stellantis will offer NACS connectors on select vehicles and adapters for existing vehicles. This means that NACS will become the de facto North American EV charging standard. Major automakers such as Volkswagen, GM, Volvo, Polestar, Mercedes, Honda, BMW, and Lucid already support NACS, and charging network operators ChargePoint and Electrify America have committed to adoption. While some experts expect the CCS standard to continue to be used, the adoption of NACS will further advance the EV market and improve user-friendliness. The adoption of NACS marks an important inflection point for the EV market, and while it remains to be seen how the EV charging standards market will evolve in the future, NACS is expected to play an important role in the development of the EV market.

Tesla announced that its latest software update, "2024.2.3," released today, significantly improves smartphone key functionality by introducing support for ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. The update is expected to revolutionize the way Tesla vehicles interact with users' smartphones. UWB is a wireless technology similar to Bluetooth, but it consumes less energy and provides much more precise location tracking. This makes UWB an ideal technology for pinpointing the exact location of a smartphone and measuring its distance from the vehicle. Although Tesla's Smartphone Key has already been hailed as an innovative feature that allows you to lock and unlock your car without a physical key, and share access digitally, sometimes the car would not recognize the phone. "UWB technology will solve these issues and make the Phone Key feature more reliable and convenient," Tesla said.
