Meta Verified will let users verify their account with a government ID. The service will roll out first in Australia and New Zealand this week. Only users who are over the age of 18 will be allowed to subscribe to the service. Facebook says there will be no changes to accounts that are already verified.

Former Facebook employee George Hayward, a data scientist, says Facebook can secretly drain the battery on its users' cellphones on purpose. Hayward was fired by Facebook parent Meta for refusing to participate in negative testing. Negative testing is a term for what Facebook is doing.
